Many decades ago a new acquaintance graced me with a blind date opportunity that I accepted with a certain measure of trepidation. Anyway, the arranged night followed with my usual anxiety and awkwardness obvious to my date—a cute, petite charm. As the evening waned to a conclusion, she resisted no more then said, “you should learn to relax, be yourself, be natural.” To this I mused less than a minute before casting the future away with “well, isn’t that rich with hypocrisy; wisdom worth giving is wisdom worth taking. Be yourself, be natural, use a jackhammer to remove that makeup.” The date ended abruptly without a need to escort her to her door.

Much can be learned from the Washington Post/ABC News polling graph above. Let’s begin. The two-line graph includes four points with each representing the affirmative answer to the question ‘do you think O.J. Simpson was guilty or not guilty’. One line represents the affirmative response from Whites, the other from Blacks.

Before we address each point, we must first consider the question itself. The question seems to confine responses to the boundaries of the courtroom. However, lacking telepathy we cannot presume the respondent thinks the same.

Let’s examine each point separately.
